In a survey by YouGov, commissioned by John Lewis and Barnado’s, The Hobbit has been ranked fourth in the list of Britain’s best-loved children’s books.

British MEP Dan Hannan has blogged on The Telegraph: “Supposing him to be the gardener: Sam Gamgee, the Battle of the Somme and my Great Uncle Bill”.

The Huffington Post has produced a list of the ‘9 Best Trees in Literature’, and have featured (albeit incorrectly) J.R.R. Tolkien’s Ents. Researchers at the University of Florida have discovered a new 16-foot long (5 metres) ancient crocodile in the Amazon. The creature has been named Anthracosuchus balrogus.

To mark the 450th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, The Globe is starting its world tour of Hamlet in a ship named “J.R. Tolkien”.

Game of Thrones author, George R.R. Martin, in a long interview with Rolling Stone magazine has spoken about his views of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s The Lord of the Rings.
