Springmoot 2024 will be held at Jesus College, Cambridge from Friday 12th until Sunday 14th April, with The Tolkien Society AGM and Annual Dinner on Saturday 13th April.
About the weekend
Springmoot is held each April on the weekend of The Tolkien Society’s Annual General Meeting. This year, it returns to Cambridge for the first time time since 1990.
The weekend starts with an Innmoot on the Friday evening (see below).
The AGM itself will be held in the Frankopan Hall, and will start at 15:00 on the Saturday afternoon. The AGM may only be attended by members of The Tolkien Society.
The semi-formal Annual Dinner will be held in the Upper Hall later that evening, with our Guest Speaker Andrew Higgins.
Accommodation
Accommodation is available through Jesus College, Cambridge, and should be booked directly with them via this link. When booking you need to scroll through the “arrival date” box to show April and select arrival on April 12 or April 13 to see availability.
Accommodation is in student accommodation, and costs £108 per night for a single ensuite room (bed & breakfast) or £126 per night for a twin ensuite room (bed & breakfast).
Annual Dinner
Bookings for the Annual Dinner closed on Sunday 24th March.
The menus for the two options are as follows:
- Vegetarian
- Goats cheese and beetroot pancakes, with caramelised onion purée, sundried tomatoes, and micro basil
- Pithivier exotic mushrooms, with braised fennel and truffle oil, warm niçoise salad and salsa Verde
- Bitter chocolate and salted caramel tart with Guinness ice-cream and cocoa tuille
- Non-vegetarian
- Smoked fillet of cod, with crisp poached egg buttered spinach and hollandaise sauce
- Cutlet of Suffolk pork, with Trealy farm black pudding, poached pineapple, creamed sweet potato, confit baby fennel and sauce vierge.
- Bitter chocolate and salted caramel tart with Guinness ice-cream and cocoa tuille

Innmoot
The Innmoot will be held at The Maypole, 20a Portugal Place, Cambridge (maypolefreehouse.co.uk), which is conveniently accessible very close to Jesus College.
We have booked the back bar from 19:00 until closing time (midnight). The kitchen closes at 21:00, with last orders for food around 20:50.
