Wolverhampton Art Gallery, as part of the Black Country Echoes Festival, is hosting an exhibition this from September to January called the “Making of Mordor”. The displays include items from the Tolkien Society archives and Tolkien Society members.

20 Sep 2014 – 17 Jan 2015Exploring links between the Black Country of the early 1900s and JRR Tolkien’s fantasy land of Mordor, this exhibition brings together paintings, photographs, film and writing inspired by the industrial powerhouse of the West Midlands. As well as images from Tolkien’s sketchbooks, first editions of The Lord of the Rings and iconic illustrations by Ted Nasmith, the show includes contemporary works by Richard Billingham, Brian Griffin and internationally acclaimed installation artist Olafur Eliasson.
The Making of Mordor is part of the Black Country Echoes Festival, which runs from September – December 2014. www.blackcountryechoes.org.uk
