Call for papers: Tolkien Society Seminar 2017
Last year’s speakers and chair

The Tolkien Society Seminar 2017 will be held on Sunday 2 July in Leeds at the Hilton Leeds City. We are now calling for papers on the theme of Poetry and Song in Tolkien’s works.

Call for papers

Blessed are the legend-makers with their rhyme

Of things not found within recorded time

J.R.R. Tolkien, Mythopoeia

This year the Seminar turns to the exploration of Tolkien’s verse creations and invites submissions on the topic of Poetry and Song. The Seminar comes in the wake of the publication of the Lay of Aotrou and Itroun and Beren and Lúthien, both having a poetic aspect to them.

If you would like to submit a paper, send your proposal to Anna Milon before 1 April 2017.

About the Seminar

The Tolkien Society has held a Seminar most summers since 1986. The day-long event consists of a programme of talks from both Tolkien scholars and enthusiasts.

The Seminar is now held in Leeds each year on the day before the beginning of the International Medieval Congress. Tolkien worked at the University of Leeds between 1920 and 1925, first as a Reader and later Professor of English Language.

Bookings

Bookings are now open for delegates. Registration costs £25 for members and £30 for non-members.

Registration this year includes refreshments throughout the day, catered breaks and sandwiches for lunch.
