American geography professor Stentor Danielson has designed creates maps of US cities in the style of the maps included in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion.

Today marks 100 years since Middle-earth first came into being. On 24 September 1914, Tolkien wrote the poem ‘The Voyage of Éarendel the Evening Star’. It was, as Christopher Tolkien described it, “the first of the mythology”.

The Hungarian Tolkien Society is hosting its ninth Tolkien Mailing Competition. This year, however, the “Quendi” category is open to Tolkien fans from around the world to win the honour of being crowned the winner of the HTS’s competition.

According to Facebook, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have both ranked as two of the most popular books by users (behind the Harry Potter series and To Kill a Mockingbird.
