Yulemoot is the annual seasonal gathering of The Tolkien Society. This year we are holding both in-person and online events on separate weekends.

The online event will take place via Zoom on Saturday 11 December.

The event will start at 7:30 p.m. UK time (8:30 p.m. CET, 2:30 p.m. US East Coast, 11:30 a.m. US West Coast) with a Yuletide themed quiz.

Following completion of the quiz, we will use breakout rooms to create a number of options:

  • An open-mic room where people can sing a song or perform a sketch or monologue – the choice is yours, but there is a time limit on an individual performance of 5 minutes
  • games room
  • Themed breakout rooms (to be confirmed) where people can discuss particular topics
  • General breakout rooms where people can simply mingle and chat

The Zoom links and further information will be sent by email to Tolkien Society members – if you have any questions or need further information please email quiz@tolkiensociety.org

About Yulemoot

Yulemoots have been held by individual smials over the years and since 2015 the Society has hosted a central event for all-comers in Birmingham. Aside from being the city Tolkien grew up in (and thus there are various Blue Plaques on buildings for the keen to track down) members and non-members can visit the City’s large German Christmas Market, or take in the treasures of the Staffordshire Hoard, the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found, and the Pre-Raphaelite works in the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery (the Edwardian tea-room comes highly recommended), or the delights of the many pubs, cafes, and restaurants. Yulemoot was held online in 2020; in 2021 an in-person Yulemoot was held in Birmingham on 4th December, with a separate online Yulemoot the following weekend.
