Gunmaker's Arms, Birmingham

Yulemoot is the annual seasonal gathering of The Tolkien Society, this year taking place at Gunmakers Arms in Birmingham on 2 December 2017. The event is open to anyone.

About Yulemoot

Yulemoots have been held by individual smials over the years and since 2015 the Society has hosted a central event for all-comers in Birmingham. Aside from being the city Tolkien grew up in (and thus there are various Blue Plaques on buildings for the keen to track down) members, and non-member smial-members, can visit the City’s large German Christmas Market, or take in the treasures of the Staffordshire Hoard, the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found, and the Pre-Raphaelite works in the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery (the Edwardian tea-room comes highly recommended), or the delights of the many pubs, cafes, and restaurants. Those who wish may also stay over and make a weekend of it in hotels like the Plough & Harrow where Tolkien and Edith stayed prior to his departure for France in 1916. Sarehole Mill is now in its winter hours but is open on the first Sunday of the month.
