Oxonmoot is much more than just a big seminar. To complement the programme of Talks and Papers, we are programming the following activities:

  • The Telerin Circle at which delegates can read their favourite passage from Tolkien’s works
  • A Poetry Reading to showcase members own poetry, and provide an opportunity for members to read their favourite poems by Tolkien and his associates
  • Discussions:
    • The Expanding Fandom: Tolkien through a multicultural lens
    • Many Meetings: Tolkien societies as hubs for international youth events
    • Side by Side with a Friend: Friendship and togetherness in Tolkien’s writing
    • Fantasies of Time and Death
    • How archaeology influenced and informed JRR Tolkien’s legendarium
  • Creative Workshops:
    • Baking masterclass with Beorn’s (secret) wife Maggie
    • Fëanor’s Workshop – Papercraft
    • Fëanor’s Workshop – Crafting with paper circuits & LEDs
    • Runes, Cirth and Tengwar: An introduction and workshop
    • Yarnbombing
    • “Show and Tell” following the Costume Masquerade
  • Writing Workshops:
    • Epic Style: Learn to write and distinguish Germanic & Celtic narrative techniques
    • So you want to write fanfiction? Writers’ roundtable
    • So you want to write fanfiction? Drabbles & short works
    • So you want to write fanfiction? Character development
  • Games:
    • Middle-earth in the Age of Quarantine
    • Dungeons, Dragons & Denethor (A D&D workshop)
    • Who am I? A riddle game
  • Music & Video:
    • Echoes from Middle-earth: a music-visual journey through The Lord of the Rings
    • Mormegil, the Black Sword of Doom: a dramatic presentation of part of the Narn i Hîn Húrin.
  • Other:
    • U. MOve! Slaying Darkness through Dance
    • Introduction to the Tolkien Society Archive
