The Oxford Literary Festival will be running a couple of talks related to Tolkien later this month.

The 2014 AGM will host the inaugural Tolkien Society Awards. The awards are to recognise excellence in the fields of Tolkien scholarship and fandom as well as highlighting our long-standing charitable objective to “seek to educate the public in, and promote research into, the life and works of Professor John Ronald Reuel Tolkien CBE”. Following publication of the hardback last year, a new paperback of The Hobbit, illustrated by Jemima Catlin, will be released 11 September 2014.

Details have emerged about John D. Rateliff’s forthcoming book, A Brief History of The Hobbit, thanks to a bit of investigating by Jason Fisher.
