The 2015 Tolkien Society Seminar will be on the 4th July 2015 at the Hilton Hotel in Leeds. The theme of the seminar will be ‘One Hundred Years of Middle-earth’. This weekend has been chosen as it precedes the International Medieval Congress which is running from 6th to 9th July 2015.

Next Sunday (26 October) morning, BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship programme will broadcast a service live from Merton College Chapel, Oxford which will commemorate “the life and spirituality” of Tolkien in the context of his experience of the First World War.

Today marks 100 years since Middle-earth first came into being. On 24 September 1914, Tolkien wrote the poem ‘The Voyage of Éarendel the Evening Star’. It was, as Christopher Tolkien described it, “the first of the mythology”.

The renowned film news and fan website TheOneRing.net has announced that they will be holding a get-together in London on the eve of the world première of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

The Hungarian Tolkien Society is hosting its ninth Tolkien Mailing Competition. This year, however, the “Quendi” category is open to Tolkien fans from around the world to win the honour of being crowned the winner of the HTS’s competition.

A group of Tolkien Society members triumphed at last weekend’s Worldcon Masquerade, winning Best Workmanship, Best Presentation and Best In Show in the Masters’ category. Congratulations! The entry, entitled Aratalindalë, was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion.
