The Tolkien Society’s book Adapting Tolkien: Proceedings of The Tolkien Society Seminar 2020, edited by Will Sherwood, is published today.

Edited by Will Sherwood, and published under the auspices of the Peter Roe Memorial Fund, Adapting Tolkien is a collection of six papers presented at The Tolkien Society Seminar held online on Saturday 4th July 2020. Adapting Tolkien is published by our partner Luna Press, and is available to order from them directly.

Description

Hosted online, the Tolkien Society 2020 seminar sought to explore how J.R.R. Tolkien’s legacy partly relies on the continued adaptation of his works, characters, and languages. It offered insights into a range of artistic adaptations and evaluated how the tangible result expands the Tolkien fanbase and readership while cultivating a love and appreciation of Tolkien through the adaptor’s creative vision. It further examined the ways in which Tolkien’s creations have been interwoven into the very fabric of our primary world.

His words no longer simply exist on the page, they are transformed in our minds and are cast out into the stars. They inspire new universes and invite fresh interpretations from across the globe.

The printed book is available to order now for £9.00. Place your order for the printed book with Luna Press Publishing directly. However, you can order it now on all major platforms. Search for “Adapting Tolkien”.

About the Peter Roe Memorial Fund

The Tolkien Society’s seminar proceedings – and other booklets such as the Sindarin Lexicon – are published under the auspices of the Peter Roe Memorial Fund. The Fund commemorates Peter Roe who died in 1979 aged 16 after being hit by a speeding lorry outside his home. He was on his way to buy envelopes to enclose his enthusiastic letter to the Society. Peter was clearly an incredibly talented young man, producing stories, artwork and maps. Peter’s Dwarfish Fragments were published in Mallorn 15 in September 1980. Proceeds from the sale of Peter Roe books go back into the Fund to ensure that it is self-perpetuating. The Society will continue to produce book in the “Peter Roe Series” to honour his memory.
