The Call for Papers for Oxonmoot 2020, which will take place at St Anne’s College Oxford from Thursday 3rd September to Sunday 6th September 2020, is now open.
About Oxonmoot
The largest annual gathering of the Tolkien Society, Oxonmoot brings together around 200 Tolkien fans, scholars, students and Society members from across the world. Held every year since 1974 on a weekend close to Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday – 22 September – it is the key event in the Society’s annual calendar.
Call for Papers
Papers should be 20 minutes maximum in length (with a further ten minutes allowed for questions): it is expected that the material is suitable for oral presentation (with the option of accompanying Powerpoint) and should not therefore be ‘read’ from a script.
Longer talks (e.g. art- or artefact- based) should be discussed by email with the Day Time Programme Co-ordinator.
Proposals for papers must be submitted not later than Thursday 30th April, with a decision made by Thursday 21st May.
Please note that papers are programmed on Friday and Saturday daytime. Please indicate if you are unavailable either day.
If the paper offered is in a cognate area of study, candidates pursuing a relevant MA, MSc, MRes, MSt, MPhil, DPhil, PhD or equivalent postgraduate degree from a recognised higher education institution will be eligible to apply for a Tolkien Society Bursary to support the cost of their attendance at Oxonmoot. Applications for this year’s bursaries will be opened on Sunday 16th February, and will close on Sunday 22nd March, with decisions made by Thursday 30th April. Please indicate with the check-box on the form if you are going to apply for a bursary.
All presenters must be registered delegates at Oxonmoot.
