Applications for Tolkien Society Bursaries are invited from students studying for a postgraduate research degree. The Bursary can be used to support attendance at Oxonmoot 2021 to present your research, or alternatively to support presentation at other recognised academic conferences relevant to Tolkien Studies, or for costs incurred to pursue your research.
About the Bursary
The Tolkien Society Bursary was established to help outstanding postgraduate students to pursue and present their research to the wider Tolkien community, no matter their personal circumstances. We want to facilitate new academic discussions from diverse backgrounds by helping new voices gain confidence in the field of Tolkien studies.
A number of Bursaries are available, each providing funding up to £500 (GBP). The Bursaries can be used in a number of ways:
- To support registration costs, travel and accommodation to allow the student to present their work at Oxonmoot
- To support registration costs, travel and accommodation to allow the student to present research directly related to JRR Tolkien at another recognised academic conference
- To support the costs of undertaking research directly related to JRR Tolkien, for example travel to specific sites of interest or to access resources, or fees associated with accessing resources.
The Bursary is available to graduate students pursuing an MA, MSc, MRes, MSt, MPhil, DPhil, PhD or equivalent degree from a recognised higher education institution.
Applications for 2021 Tolkien Society Bursaries must be received by 8:00 am UK time on Thursday 1st July.
