ADC Books are selling a unique collection of original letters, photographs, and postcards from the family of J.R.R. Tolkien. The asking price is £249,750.

The collection includes fifteen previously unpublished letters by Tolkien himself, together with letters from close family members and associates. These include:

• Tolkien’s parents Arthur and Mabel Tolkien (nee Suffield)
• His brother Hilary Tolkien
• His and Hilary’s guardian Fr Francis Morgan
• His aunt Jane Neave
• His children John Tolkien, Michael Tolkien, Christopher Tolkien, and Priscilla Tolkien
• His official biographer Humphrey Carpenter.

The collection also includes a signed photograph of J.R.R. Tolkien, along with others of Hilary Tolkien, Edith Tolkien (nee Bratt), John Tolkien, Michael Tolkien, and Priscilla Tolkien.

Also on sale are Tolkien family ephemera such as Tolkien’s own panama hat, along with a manuscript by Hilary Tolkien now published in Black & White Ogre Country.
