Jeffrey Runokivi Toledo Ohio, USA Mead Words cannot express either my admiration for the good Professor, nor the influence his writtings have had on my life. It started with Lord of the Rings, which led to the Sillmarilian, which led to Tom Bombadil, Beorhtnoth's Homecoming, Smith of Wooton Major, the Pearl, Gawain, Monsters and Critics, Finn and Hengest the poem and fragment...and so on. It is because of him, that I travel the road I do, Early and Medieval English Studies. This man whom I have never met, has had a profound impact on my life. On the third of January, I shall raise a horn of mead and smoke a pipe full of tobacco in his honour. May he hears us from his eternal home in the West...where the undying live on.
