What is a Summermoot?

On a few occasions J.R.R. Tolkien visited George Sayer in Malvern, Worcestershire. While Tolkien was there he would enjoy walking in the local area, including the Malvern Hills. Summermoot attempts to re-capture this relaxation in a local area.

Summermoot is also an inexpensive way for Tolkien Society members (and friends) to get together and Talk Tolkien and other interests. It has often involved camping, usually in a field (with permission) rather than at an official camp site; though by no means are B&Bs ruled out.

The time is invariably during the "Summer Holidays", which in the UK run from late July until very early September: often the period of best weather. It is also the time when the schools are "on holiday" and is a traditional time for going away.
