Tolkien Society Library

The Society Library is a Lending library for the use of Tolkien Society members. Only two paperbacks or one hardback or heavy book may be borrowed at a time;  the usual loan period is four weeks but this may be extended by arrangement with the Librarian.

The Library exists due to the generosity of Society members, who pass on books they no longer wish to keep themselves.   Donations of appropriate books are always welcome.   They can be handed to the Librarian or any Society official, if you attend Society gatherings, otherwise they can be sent through the post, though senders should obtain a Certificate of Posting - and the Librarian regrets that it is not possible to guarantee to reimburse you for the postage.

Borrowing

The Library is for the use of Tolkien Society members only.

Books may be borrowed by post on receipt on the current charge IN STAMPS.

Two paperbacks or one hardback (H) or one heavy book may be borrowed at a time.

The normal borrowing period is for four weeks from date of receipt, but this may be extended by arrangement with the librarian.

Books are to be returned at the borrower's expense, in the same or similar padded envelope in which they were sent. Second class post may be used, but the obtaining of a free Certificate of Posting is recommended.

If books or an acknowledgement are not received four weeks after ordering, contact the librarian again in case the order has gone astray.

Books are sometimes available for borrowing at Oxonmoot. These should be returned by post after the normal borrowing period.

Loss of or damage to books should be reported at once. Do not mend books yourself but return, well wrapped, as they are. An appropriate charge will be made but normal wear and tear will not be charged for.

The Post Office will be liable for any loss or damage occuring during transit, as long as a Certificate of Posting can be produced, so you are advised to keep this in a safe place.

Persistent failure to comply with library rules will result in suspension from use of the library, and in extreme cases suspension of Society membership.

In all correspondence, requests for information etc. please enclose SAE unless your enquiry accompanies an order for books.

All requests and enquiries should be addressed to the librarian.
