We cordially invite you to attend Oxonmoot. This year, it will be held from 14th to 16th September at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford OX2 6QA, an Oxford college located in lovely grounds alongside the River Cherwell, a mile from the city centre. We extend a warm welcome in advance to all this year’s first-timers - what better setting in which to experience your first Oxonmoot? Online booking is now available. Note that registrations are non-refundable. You can use the form to book more than one person. If you need any extra information or find any problems with your booking, you can contact Alison at bookings AT tolkiensociety DOT org. Below you will find some information about the event.
We are planning the usual Art Show, Sales Room, Hospitality Room, and Saturday’s full programme of daytime events culminating in the evening Party, with the customary Entertainments and Costume Masquerade (costume not compulsory!). On Sunday morning there is a brief remembrance ceremony (‘Enyalië’) at Professor Tolkien’s grave in Wolvercote Cemetery. Coaches to and from the cemetery are provided but you must indicate on your booking form if you require a seat.
Children are welcome at Oxonmoot. Children from 0-15 must be closely supervised and those of 16-17 years must have an adult who is responsible for them on site. Please contact the Booking Officer as early as possible to discuss your requirements, especially if you would like to stay as a family in college.
Registration Rates: £23 (members 16+) or £27 (non-members 16+) £11 (members aged 11-15) or £13 (non-members aged 11-15) up to 31st July. You can book till the 24th August, but the price goes up on the 1st.
You can book any combination of rooms, food, both or neither, but your booking must be received by 24th August. After this date you may still be able to register, but not book food/rooms. To qualify for the early-bird prices, your form must be with the Booking Officer by 31st July.
There are plenty of ensuite rooms available this year, and 2 types of non-ensuite. The prices quoted are for 2 nights, and include breakfasts. (Note that parking for guests at the college is generally not available.) There may also be a very limited number of twin ensuite rooms available, and the Booking Officer will provide more details on request.
If you would like to attend Friday’s 3-course Welcome Dinner, a popular and convivial start to the weekend, please select your chosen menu on the booking form.
There will be a buffet sandwich lunch on Saturday, which has been arranged in response to requests for a focal point during the daytime. We hope that as many people as possible will join us for this, especially as we are arranging an entertainment straight after it.
Early on Saturday evening (before the Party, which starts at 8pm), there will be a barbecue offering a selection of foods such as: chicken and vegetarian kebabs, marinated chicken & salmon, meat and vegetarian burgers, accompaniments, salads, and jacket potatoes (full menu on request).
Please note that no other food is available to purchase in college and there are limited eateries nearby, as LMH is a little out of the city centre. Special diets will be catered for at all meals if notified in advance.
We strive to make the event as accessible as possible within the limitations of an Oxford college. If you have a disability or mobility problems, please discuss your requirements with the Booking Officer.
We always need Stewards to help Oxonmoot run smoothly. Duties will not be long or hard and may well be at an event which you wish to attend anyway. Many first-timers find this is a good way of getting to know people. We also need people to help set up on Friday and pack up on Sunday, if you are arriving/leaving at compatible times. Please indicate your interest on your form, and the Stewarding Co-ordinator with get in touch with more information.
We also need volunteers to write a nice report for Amon Hen and for the website. The report doesn't have to be long. It's just a way of sharing your experience and encourage others like you to come and enjoy Oxonmoot next year. So, if you had a good time, please contact Meggy McMurry at events.page AT tolkiensociety DOT org and send her your report for the web, or contact Andrew Buttler at amonhen AT tolkiensociety DOT org if you just want it published in Amon Hen.
Specific enquiries about attendance should be directed to the Booking Officer at bookings AT tolkiensociety DOT org, while for general enquiries about Oxonmoot please contact Laura Marples at chairman AT tolkiensociety DOT org.
We look forward to welcoming you to Oxonmoot, and may a star shine on the hour of our meetings.
Laura Marples and Alison Davidson,
on behalf of The Oxonmoot Subcommittee
