Changes:

The right to make changes to the site and the disclaimer, terms and conditions and order form or any other contents at any time without or without warning is expressly reserved by The Tolkien Society.

Privacy Statement 

The Tolkien Society Website does not collect information specific to individual users without their knowledge or consent. We may analyse server logs to determine information in an aggregate form about users in general who visit our site, but none of this links to specific users. None of the content on our site is unsuitable for minors, therefore at no time will anyone be asked to provide proof of age. E-mail addresses or any personal information we collect is never shared or transferred to any third parties, except as required to fulfil a request for information from the owner of the address. Under normal circumstances the owner's approval will be required before any address is passed on to a third party.

The Tolkien Society does not give out to enquirers any addresses or contact details for any author, artist, member or any individual or other information sources known to it unless these have been released as a public contact point by the owners.

Other people's material

The Tolkien Society aims to reproduce material only within the rules of fair dealing, or with express permission of the author/artist concerned or their representatives, or general approval from a representative of the copyright holder for grey areas, whether verbal or otherwise. The Tolkien Society will not knowingly reproduce any material outside the rules of fair dealing that has not somewhere along the line been approved by a rights holder or representative of a rights holder.

Book jackets and covers and similar packaging is reproduced on the understanding that the reproduction represents the book or item concerned with the intention of promoting interest in the specific item and in its author and/or artist, in line with general publication practice for reviewing, describing and publicising books and other items. Book covers and other packaging and any details from them will not be reproduced for purely decorative purposes.

Book covers and other packaging are reproduced on the understanding that the publisher or manufacturer concerned has already made payment/royalty arrangements as appropriate with any artist, photographer, copywriter, designer, agency or other provider whose work is involved, for the small-scale reproduction of covers and packaging for promotional purposes.

If any provider finds that any item reproduced on this site relating to their work is not already covered by a reproduction agreement with the publisher or manufacturer concerned, please let us know and we will either remove the reproduction from the site or add any acknowledgement and reference required, as agreed. The Tolkien Society does not have a royalties budget for book and merchandise promotion and cannot negotiate further rights or royalty payments. (That is, we are a voluntary society promoting interest in the works of JRR Tolkien and can't afford to pay reproduction fees. Essays, web pages and decorative material on this site has been contributed by members of the Society.)

Any complaint to the Tolkien Society that reproduction rights for promotion have not been suitably covered by a publisher or manufacturer will be notified to the publisher or manufacturer concerned, and any other parties known to us who may be affected.
