The two towers was a good movie, but it wasn't the Lord of The Rings.

Sam Kimpton, Portland, OR, United States of America

Asking for my commentary on Peter Jackson's film the Two Towers is like having a website devoted to Victor Hugo and soliciting reviews for Disney Production's animated version of The Hunch Back of Notre Dame.

Personally I dislike the cinematic version of the Lord of the Rings and am growing increasingly weary of all the media hype surrounding it.

Philip Coker, Birmingham, United Kingdom

Not as good as the first movie (Fellowship); lacked depth of characterisation and strayed too far away from the narrative. I guess these were sacrificed to the action. Gollum was excellent, as were the battle scenes. Eowyn was too pretty and no where a cold beauty (Cate Blanchett would have done that better). Faramir wasn't nearly wise enough and many truly potential dramatic moments were lost. I fear that the Return of the King may go the same way...I really can't see them (movie people) going for the anticlimax of the Scouring of the Shire, let alone the Grey Havens...never mind.

I love the book and all the universe of JRR Tolkien.

The movie is great! Beautifull landscapes, bigs and darks battles...

But it's not the book! I am a little disappointed that from. But for me it's like another story, inspirate by far by the book...

The Two Towers was well done. I'm glad to see these wonderful stories passed on to generations who have never read the books - hopefully the movies will inspire them to do so. There is no replacing the unique and awe inspiring way that Tolkien writes and can't be fully portrayed for the sake of a movie. I will always read and watch in amazement at all this man did for our world.

Patrick Henderson, Brookville, USA

Best movie I have seen yet by that director the story was good even though it strayed from the book.

Nicko Boutzarelis, Athens, Greece

I will not compare the film with the book because it's not 100% the same. There are many changes.

As a film The Two Towers is a great one . I'll rate it with 9.5/10

Nikolai Prokob, Bünde, Germany

Comment: The movie is horrible, the regisseur really invented scenes which are not needed for the comprehension of the film and deleted some ones which might had been interesting.

Pet (Beruthiel's), originally from Osgiliath (we don't discuss the move). Country: Gondor

Comment: Rawwl! On consideration the landscapes were good and there weren't as many one-liners.

Read the book! Just a hint Boromir and Faramir are brothers not clones!

Jim Fitzpatrick, Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT, USA

It's impossible for a three hour movie to capture the richness and flowing beauty of Professor Tolkien words. As a cinematic work of art, it is truly stunning! You would wager your deluxe copy of the LOTR that Gollum was an actor and the battle scene at Helm's Deep ranks with the Battle of Branaugh's Henry V. A movie treasure but it's still not the book!

Reed Jackson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States of America

I would like to thank all the people who made the three movies 'Lord of the Rings'. I have waited over 30 years for a 'quality movie' to come out telling this story in a way that would truly do justice to JRR Tolkiens work and compliment the trilogy. Thank you all indeed.

As for the 'Two Towers' movies. It was just fantastic! It started out thrilling and finished up thrilling. The only sad part is that I am left again hanging on a ledge for a year waiting for the 'Return of the King'. I can only pray that I live another year and witness the final journey 'Return of the King'. It would grieve me indeed that I should miss it.

Pedro Sala Torres, Salvador, Brazil

The film is very good, but it isn't faithful to the book. Many passages of the film are not in the book.

Siobhan Duart, Kingston, Ontario, Canada

I am not one for battles, etc. in film but I went with my husband to see The Two Towers. As I closed my eyes throughout the fighting scenes, I became very much aware of the music. The film was wonderful, the music captivating. I went out and bought the soundtracks for The Two Towers and The Fellowship of the Ring and have been playing them ever since. I find they blend well with Dvorak.

Night_Vision, The Shire, Denmark

A great movie in technical terms.

- But I really don't like the way that Faramir is portrayed. The omission of certain themes from the books is understandable/acceptable (f.e. Bombadil from movie 1). But I don't think there is any acceptable reason for "re-inventing" the story!.

Chris Powell, Ottawa, Canada

The first half of the movie was startlingly faithful to the book - things I thought would have to be altered actually were not - and it was a real pleasure to watch how Jackson brings something new to pivotal scenes like Gandalf's return. The plot alterations in the second half were distressing at first to an obsessed fan of the book like myself, but I think they ultimately work. Gollum is excellent, not just visually but in terms of characterization: he's loathsome and pitiable at once, just as Tolkien describes him.

The only failures are of characterization rather than narrative: Faramir and the Ents are both undercharacterized and hence somewhat inscrutible; the Ents in particular are somewhat Disneyfied, unfortunately. On the whole the film is very good, visually gorgeous and true to its source, but somehow less serious, less heartbreaking than it could have been.
