Child protection policy

  1. No one known to be under sixteen will be admitted to Society events unless supervised by a parent or guardian (or another adult with the written approval of their parent or guardian).

It will be the responsibility of the adult(s) mentioned above to supervise their children at all times during an event and a statement to this effect will be included in documentation given to those attending the events.
  2. Names and addresses of those known to be under sixteen will not be released without the permission of a parent of guardian (this is an extension of the general policy not to release names and addresses without the permission of the person concerned).

When contact details are forwarded by the membership secretary at a member's request they will be accompanied by a note advising those under 16 to consult a parent or guardian before replying.
  3. The membership secretary is the only official of the Society who has routine access to names addresses and ages of Society members. Because of the potential for misuse of this information Membership Secretaries will be required to agree to an appropriate police check on appointment.

From time to time the committee will review whether this needs to be extended to other posts.
  4. All volunteers and officials of the Society, should, while working on behalf of the Society use their best endeavours to avoid being the sole adult in a room with persons under the age of 16 (unless they are their parent or guardian).
