Undergraduate anthropology thesis research - Shu-wen Wang

A student named Shu-wen Wang is writing an undergraduate anthropology thesis on the fan communities surrounding Tolkien's work, focusing particularly on long-standing fan organisations, as well as the effects that the film trilogy and the internet have had on fan communities.

The questions

These questions are just prompts; anyone can write anything about their fan experiences.

  1. When, How, and Why you became a fan to begin with
  2. What activities to you engage in that makes you a "fan"?
  3. What is your preference: book or films, and why?
  4. What and how many fan groups (formal and unformal) are you a part of?
  5. How important has the internet been in your fan experiences? How involved are you in online fan communities
