John Garth’s Tolkien at Exeter College published

Exeter College, Oxford, has published a new booklet about Tolkien’s undergraduate life. Written by Tolkien and the Great War author John Garth, it also explores how Tolkien first created Middle-earth 100 years ago in 1914-15.

From the publisher:

Tolkien at Exeter College: How an Oxford undergraduate created Middle-earth is the story of JRR Tolkien’s life as an undergraduate at Exeter College, from peacetime into war. It is also the tale of how he first created his mythological world in 1914–15.

Rich with archive material and original sketches by Tolkien – some never before seen – Tolkien at Exeter College is essential reading for anyone interested in Tolkien, Oxford, and the histories of Britain and of Middle-earth

Tolkien Society members who purchased the booklet at Oxonmoot last weekend were treated to a book signing following John Garth’s talk.

Purchase

Tolkien at Exeter College can now be purchased (£10 for the UK, and £15.10 for the rest of the world) from John’s website, or from Exeter College lodge on Turl Street.
