Raise a glass to the Professor in honour of his 123rd birthday

Today marks the 123rd anniversary of Tolkien’s birth. The Tolkien Society invites Tolkien fans all over the world to participate in our annual Birthday Toast.

To celebrate Tolkien’s “Twelfty-Third” birthday raise a glass to the Professor at 9pm your local time. For more information, including details of local pubmoots, see this year’s event page.

J.R.R. Tolkien was born on 3 January 1892 at the Bank House in Bloemfontein (now South Africa). He was the first child of Mabel and Arthur Tolkien. Read more about Tolkien’s life in our biography.
