Call for volunteers: can you help catalogue the Tolkien Society’s archives?

The Tolkien Society is looking for volunteers to help catalogue its collection of printed ephemera in the its Surrey-based archives.

We have a lot of printed ephemera: 11 boxes, occupying just over 3m shelving, 0.5m deep, 0.7m high. It includes fliers, advertisements, tickets, etc.

Our archivist, Pat Reynolds, is currently writing a project proposal, and it would really help to see how many people might be interested in taking part.

We need people to sort for duplicates, and people to number and scan – this would be in Woking (UK) on a Saturday in spring 2015. It would be a full day of volunteering, with a free lunch, and possibly help towards travel (e.g. £20 – would cover travel by rail from London).

Then we need volunteers to work with the online images, writing catalogue entries, and correcting OCR’d text. These people could be anywhere in the world.

If you can help, please contact the archivist.
