Want to be more than just a member of the audience? Then join us as a volunteer at Tolkien 2005. Stewards and Assistants and other volunteers are attendees who want to give a little back and help the event run smoothly.
Volunteers are asked to do a duty of about 1–2 hours on each day of the event. These duties are mainly of a stewarding nature, helping to let the attendees know what is happening and when. Additionally, your duties will usually be at events you wish to attend anyway — entry guaranteed!
For anyone attending a Tolkien Society event for the first time, volunteering is a useful way to meet people. Not only do you get to meet all the other volunteers, but attendees tend to gravitate to the 'badges' for a chat or information.
Alternatively, if you do not want to commit yourself on a daily basis, assistants to help with specific jobs are also needed. Then the rest of the time is your own.
The following types of volunteer are required:
Help with specific tasks, such as setting up and dismantling the Dealers' Room and Art Show.
Man the Conference Office. Help with newsletters, queries and internal communications.
Introduce the speakers and panelists; keep them to time; take questions from the floor for the speaker to answer.
Keep a general eye on rooms like the Art Show and the Dealers' Room; manage the audience in the lecture rooms.
General Security things; get called "Háma"!
Operate the technical equipment for the various talks and panels.
For further information or to volunteer please contact the Volunteers Co-ordinator [pop up window], alternatively please use the form below. Please indicate which type of volunteer you would prefer to be and any particular skills you may have.
